North Dakota Badlands in spring |
|
| Note to self: next time bring spare batteries. |
The North Dakota badlands are an outdoor lover's delight. Early June
2005. It was a late spring so the flora was late in blooming. I decided
to take a hike and of course I had to take my camera along. Also along
on the trip was my Brittany Spaniel, Britta.
Flowers abounded. Unfortunately, I was experimenting with my camera and many of the photos didn't turn out. Then, the batteries died and I didn't have a spare. However, here are some photos for your enjoyment. Just click on the picture for a larger view. Upper left-hand corner is a swallow's nest. The nest with two white eggs belongs to a mourning dove. The picture of dirt is actually mule deer tracks. Next to the deer tracks are some coyote tracks. They had traveled the same trail. The deer that is out of focus and running is one that I called in. She was about 15 feet from me when she realized she had been tricked. I got a quick picture - notice all the flowers on the ground. In the spring, cactus bloom and have very beautiful pink flowers. Britta stepped on one and it more or less ruined her hike. The second to last picture is sage brush - the second-best smell in North Dakota after lilacs. Mule deer enjoy a sage salad every once in a while. |
